Is $450 a Fair Price for Stair Skirtboard Installation?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice regarding a quote we received for installing a skirt board on our staircase. Initially, I tried taking on the project myself but struggled to get it right. So, we decided to ask a friend, who quoted us $450, plus the cost of materials, just for the install. The job seems pretty straightforward since it's just cutting and hanging it up, and we've said we'd take care of caulking and painting. But I'm not totally sure if this price is in line with industry standards. Does this seem reasonable to you all? For context, our stairs have 14 steps and are straightforward, going directly from the first to the second floor, with carpet. We also mentioned we're flexible on the size and style of the skirt board.

I totally get your concern! Installing a skirt board isn't just a quick job; they need to measure and cut each step, which can be a hassle, especially if they want it to look good. Also, since they might not be able to jump to another job right away, you’re basically paying for a full day's work. But hey, it’s always smart to get a couple more quotes to compare prices!

Yeah, that makes sense. With my own install, I found the process can be tricky, especially if the stairs don't align perfectly. Glad I didn't try to DIY it myself!
