I received a quote of $4,000 to install five Ethernet drops in my home. Each drop has an existing coax outlet running back to the garage, which I hope to use for fishing the new cables. Is this estimate reasonable?

That $4K estimate seems really steep. I just upgraded my electrical service for less than that! Make sure you also ask if the quote includes wall repairs and how far the runs are. Fishing cables isn't always straightforward, especially if they’re secured to studs. If they're just running the cables without repairs, it seems overpriced to me.
