Is $700 a Fair Price to Repair a Small Ceiling Drywall?

I'm looking to fix a small section of ceiling drywall—specifically a 3x3 ft area in a corner of my closet. There's a hole from a previous leak that has since been repaired, so now I need to seal it up. The job involves adding some insulation and re-installing the drywall. The quote I got is $700, which includes materials. Does that sound reasonable to you?

I think $700 isn't crazy given that there’s a lot involved. Drywall work usually takes multiple trips, each for different stages like mudding and sanding. So, if you factor in those visits, it adds up. That said, if it's a tight budget, you could ask them to do just the first coat to save on costs. It'll be a bit rough, but since it’s just in a closet, who cares?

That's a smart idea! Doing just the first coat could cut down the time and labor costs significantly.

Honestly, that price seems a bit high for such a small job. Most people might suggest you try doing it yourself. The materials should be pretty cheap, and since it's just in a closet, you won’t have to worry too much about flawless finishing. If you're up for the DIY challenge, I say go for it!
