Is 7kWh a Normal Daily Energy Leak from My Hybrid Inverter?

Hey everyone,

I'm dealing with a Bluesun Hybrid inverter connected to a 15kWh solar setup and 30kWh of batteries. I noticed that my energy meter (DTSU666, no CTs) is showing a leakage of 7kWh daily. While I know some energy loss is expected, this seems excessive. The manufacturer claims everything is set up correctly and that such leakage is normal. I'm wondering if replacing the energy meter could help, or if I should consider getting a different inverter altogether. What do you all think?

Yeah, 7kWh seems way off. Some inverters can be pretty tricky with energy management. Maybe adjusting the charging settings might help? I had a similar experience where my inverter just wasn’t optimized to handle energy distribution properly. Disconnecting unnecessary paths can also be a good troubleshooting step. Just curious, have you considered the inverter’s firmware updates? Sometimes that can also make a difference!

It sounds like you’re indeed leaking quite a bit of energy! Normally, a little leakage is expected, but 7kWh is quite a lot. If your inverter isn’t shutting down production when the batteries are full, that might be the culprit. You could consider adding external CTs to see if that helps—it's the cheaper option compared to a full replacement. Just know there's no guarantee it’ll solve everything. How’s your setup in terms of DC or AC coupling? Also, does the leakage happen consistently or only during peak solar times?

I think to really stop that leakage, you might need to switch to an off-grid mode if your inverter supports it. My setup with a similar system only leaks around 1kWh a day, and that's while running loads. Seven kWh sounds excessive under normal conditions. How much power your loads are drawing can definitely impact this, so take a look at that.

Also, have you thought about setting a lower standard charge level? Redirecting any excess production could minimize that leakage you’re seeing.
