Is $8200 a Fair Price for Ceiling Skimming?

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of removing my popcorn ceiling and have already scraped it off. Now, I'm looking to hire someone for the skim coat and painting. My house is about 2000 sq ft with standard 7.5 ft ceilings and not many light fixtures. I received a quote of $5500 just for the skim coat and sanding, plus $2700 for primer and paint, totaling $8200. Does this sound reasonable, or should I shop around for more quotes? By the way, this is for a level 5 finish, but I'm not sure if that's necessary. I live on the east coast. Any advice?

I think you could do better! I had my ceiling done by a handyman for about a quarter of that price, and honestly, the results were just as good as the 'pros.' Just keep in mind that sometimes in these threads, you might get contractors trying to say the quote is fair. Don't hesitate to get more options.

That's really surprising! Where are you located?

Honestly, that sounds about right, especially for a level 5 finish. But I feel like the paint quote is a bit low; typically, you'd need at least two coats for a good job. If they can work with those numbers, then good for you! Just make sure to ask about their process.
