Is $850 a Fair Price for Delivery and Installation of Prebuilt Stairs in Michigan?

I'm planning to buy a prebuilt 5-step stair unit with a small stoop for $479.99 from a local supplier. I asked a contractor for a quote to handle the entire job: picking up the unit, delivering it to my house, removing and disposing of the old wooden stairs, and installing the new stairs on flat ground without any additional deck work. He quoted me $850 for everything, and I'm just trying to figure out if that's a reasonable price. I was expecting the labor cost to be around $300-$400, so I'm unsure if I'm off base.

Remember that contractors also need to make a living. It's frustrating when people expect dirt-cheap prices! Their work is valuable, and dealing with all those logistical details warrants a fair price.

I just wanted to ensure I'm not getting blindsided here. It's a surprise for my husband, and I want it to go well!

I think that price is pretty reasonable for what you’re asking. It involves a lot of work: picking up the stairs, hauling them to your place, installing them, and removing the old ones! It's not just simple labor; time and effort are involved here.

I appreciate the insight! Just wanted to make sure I'm not being ripped off with this pricing!

Honestly, that quote doesn't seem too bad. If I were doing it, I'd charge about $300-$400 just to remove the old stairs. You're getting a lot for that $850 since it includes delivery and installation too!

Lol, so I might actually be getting a good deal then?!
