Is $8,500-$9,500 a Fair Price for Central AC Installation?

Hey everyone! I'm new to this whole HVAC thing, so I'd appreciate your input. We just got a quote for installing central air in our small, older home, and the estimate ranges from $8,500 to $9,500 based on the unit we choose. The quote includes $7,700 for the unit and installation, $1,000 for A/C wiring, and $500 for weatherproofing, with a $1,000 discount since we're in Michigan. Does this sound like a fair deal to you? Should I consider getting a second opinion from another company? Thanks for your help!

That price seems pretty reasonable! Considering the size of your home and the fact that it already has central heat, you're likely looking at similar installation costs. When I installed my AC a few years back, I spent around $10,000 for a basic 3-ton unit. Also, keep in mind that the prices for units don't shift much when you’re talking about smaller setups. It’s always smart to compare quotes, though!

Yeah, I agree! Prices can be pretty consistent in that range. Just make sure the company you choose has solid reviews and will handle any follow-ups if needed.

It's definitely worth getting a few more quotes. There can be big differences in offerings, and you might find a better warranty or service plan elsewhere. Also, remember that a high SEER unit sounds nice, but they can be a bit complicated and expensive to maintain over time. Do your research!

Exactly! Don’t rush into it just because you're getting quotes now. With winter approaching, take your time and find the best deal that fits your needs.
