Is $855 a Good Price for Garage Door Insulation?

I recently moved into a new construction house and I've got a two-car garage that I want to insulate. I received a quote from one company for $855 total, which breaks down to $400 for a torsion spring set and $550 for a 16x7 Vinyl-Back Insulation Kit that includes 16 pieces of polystyrene vinyl-backed insulation. I'm wondering if this price is reasonable. I also heard from another company that insulating a door after it's already installed can be difficult, but I thought they just stick the insulation on the back like in some DIY videos. Is it really a different process?

I can totally relate! I used about one and a half kits to insulate my garage door, and I ended up needing to readjust the springs due to that added weight. I wouldn't mess with the springs unless you're super confident though. You might be able to skip replacing them, and for the insulation part, using adhesive to hold the panels can make everything easier, which is something I wish I had back when I did mine!

Just a heads up, if your garage isn’t climate controlled, insulating the door might not be super effective without a heat or cooling source!

It's smart of them to plan for adjusting the springs when adding insulation since the extra weight can affect how the door operates. Replacing old springs makes sense and prevents safety issues. If you don’t already have a stiffening strut down the middle, you might want to add one. Overall, the pricing sounds reasonable based on what you described.
