Is $9000 a Fair Price for Pipe Repair Under My Concrete Slab?

Asked By CuriousCat99 On

I've got a leaking pipe under the concrete slab of my home, and the plumber quoted me $9000 to fix it. This includes jackhammering the concrete, making the repairs, and then laying new concrete. Now, I feel a bit uneasy because the plumber didn't actually use any equipment to locate the leak; he just gave me this quote. At one point, he mentioned it could cost more than $9000, which adds to my anxiety since I suspect I might be getting scammed. Given how high this estimate is, I'm worried I might have to sell my house to cover the costs. Is this quote reasonable, or should I seek other opinions?

From my experience, that price seems quite high, but it can vary depending on your location and the specifics of the job. I recommend getting another quote to see if the work really aligns with what others are charging. Also, consider that higher costs can sometimes come from unknown difficulties they might face during the repair, but it sounds like you need to do your homework first.

Definitely look into it more! I recently had a pipe job done, and I paid way less than that for a similar repair.

For sure! Sometimes it’s just about finding the right contractor who won’t overcharge you.

Don't feel pressured into that contract! It’s crucial to confirm exactly where the leak is before diving into an expensive fix. Sometimes plumbers recommend just rerouting the line, which can be a lot less hassle than chiseling through concrete. Make sure to also check for reviews on whoever you might choose next; those can really help identify reliable guys.

Absolutely! Maybe even ask friends or neighbors for recommendations to avoid any sketchy contractors.

I think you definitely need a second opinion! Get a leak detection company to pinpoint the issue before you commit. Also, aim for at least three quotes from different plumbers. Sometimes they can reroute pipes rather than tearing up your slab, which might save you a lot of money in the long run. It sounds suspicious if they all quote the same price, so definitely explore other options!

Yeah, I agree with getting multiple quotes. I once had a similar issue, and in the end, I found a better deal with a different contractor!

Same here! It’s smart to get varied opinions and see what options you have.
