Is a 1.5-Inch Floor Transition Safe or a Dealbreaker?

I recently had most of the subfloors on my second floor redone, but I'm left with a bathroom that's about 1.5 inches lower than the hallway. We hadn't planned on changing the subfloor in the bathroom since it's level and solid. I'm worried if this transition is unsafe or if it could hurt the resale value of my house. What do you all think?

I think a drop of 1.5 inches isn’t that bad if you handle it right. If you can create a sloped transition that's about 4 inches wide, it’ll be less noticeable and safer. Ideally, you can hide the transition strip within the door casing to make it look clean. That way, it won’t seem risky at all!

Honestly, a 1.5-inch drop seems pretty significant. It's definitely best to think about safety first. You don’t just want to deal with a risk for yourself, but you should also consider how a future homeowner or their elderly relatives might navigate it. Better safe than sorry!

Definitely add a transition! A hard 1.5-inch drop can be a real trip hazard, not just for you but for guests too. A good transition could help prevent any accidents and potential liability issues. Just think about it this way: you don’t want someone to trip and hurt themselves in your home.
