Is a 1″ Rail Thickness Enough for 1/2″ Plywood Panels?

I'm new to frame and panel construction and I'm working on a nightstand. My legs and stiles are 1.75" thick, and I'm planning to use 1/2" plywood for the panels. I'm wondering if using 1" thick rails with a 1/2" dado for the panels, which would leave 1/4" shoulders, is adequate. Is that a good thickness for the rails?

Using 1/2" for the panel is a bit much. I'd suggest sticking with a 1/4" thick plywood for the panel, which is a standard size and offers a cleaner look with a decent shadow line. You're also less likely to face complications in your construction.

Oh wow, that's a relief! I can definitely make the rails thinner now.
