I'm trying to decide between a 13-inch and a 15-inch planer, and I'm hoping to get some insights. The 13-inch size seems to cover most of the lumber I'll use, including standard cutting boards, so I'm wondering if that extra two inches with the 15-inch model is really worth the higher price. Are there specific projects or reasons where the added capacity might justify the cost? Also, I'm weighing my options between Oliver and Cutech planers. What do you all think?

Generally, there's not a huge difference when it comes to the capacity between the two. However, keep in mind that 15-inch planers tend to be more robust machines overall, making them a better option if you're planning on using it a lot. They might offer higher power and stability, which could be valuable in the long run.
For my projects, the 13-inch planer has worked just fine. Honestly, I've thought about needing wider widths like 24 inches on occasion, but I've never once felt limited by just 2 extra inches. If you're dedicating space, why not go all out and get something bigger like a 20 or 24-inch? You’ll make fuller use of that floor space anyway.
Don’t forget about blade replacement costs and availability! While the 15-inch model might sound appealing, look into whether those larger blades are easy to find and how much they cost. Sometimes the higher upfront cost includes better long-term investment if you think about maintenance.
