Is a £3.6k Quote for Garden Work Reasonable?

I received a quote of £3.6k for some landscaping work in my garden. The job involves installing 15cm tantalized gravel boards to create a barrier against my neighbors' weeds, removing the top layer of soil to eliminate roots, adding new soil, leveling it out, and then laying down turf. The area of my garden is around 100sqm and is pretty straightforward. The breakdown includes £1.6k for materials and £2k for labor from three workers over four days, but this total doesn't include waste removal. Considering the rising cost of materials, does this price sound reasonable? Also, I'm concerned about whether this setup will actually prevent brambles from coming through from next door. Any insights would be helpful!

Honestly, £3.6k for that work sounds a bit steep to me, especially the £2k just for labor. The gravel boards and replacing soil aren’t likely to stop brambles entirely. If they really start coming through, you might have to consider more aggressive solutions like physical barriers deeper in the ground or even professional weed control. It might be worth getting a couple of more quotes to compare!

Uhoh, that’s my biggest fear too! What would you suggest as a better method to tackle the brambles?

The pricing seems on par for your area, especially with the material costs rising. However, I'd recommend digging deeper into how effective the gravel boards will be. It may help to talk to more landscapers about other methods to keep those pesky brambles at bay, like using a solid root barrier. Just make sure they understand your concerns about the weeds!
