Is a $65K Bathroom Remodel Quote Normal for Philly Suburbs?

Hey everyone! I'm currently looking into bids for my master bath remodel, but I was really surprised when I received the first quote—$65K! I was hoping to keep my budget around $45K. I'm trying to get a sense of whether this quote is in line with what others have experienced for a similar remodel. The project is expected to take about 4 weeks, and the bathroom is around 150 sq ft. I'd love your tips on where I can save costs without compromising on quality and functionality. Are these allowances typical? What has your experience been?

It's about $400 per square foot, which does seem high but might not be crazy for remodels in your area. It’s interesting to see what people are being quoted! Definitely curious about what the other bids will say.

For reference, my 145 sq ft master bath renovation was about $100K and took four months. Just something to keep in mind when you’re reevaluating your budget!

Thanks for sharing that! It does help me readjust my expectations, though I'm bummed I might have underestimated the costs.

Right? I'm trying to be realistic and learn from this process. I'm excited to see what the next quotes come in at!

I totally get your sticker shock! I had a laugh at the coupon too—it really doesn't help much. Could you please share some current pics of your space and the proposed layout? Those can really give a better picture! Since your bathroom is on the second floor, it sounds like access to plumbing should be manageable. By the way, what’s your house valued at? I don’t think your allowances are too far off from the norm.

I just updated my post with layouts and photos! We're converting the existing shower to a linen closet and switching the vanities with the tub. The estimated home value is about $850-875K.
