Is a Damp Rated Bulb Safe for My Shower Can Light?

I'm trying to find a bulb for my shower can light, and I've had such a hard time locating a wet-rated bulb at local hardware stores. I noticed one that's labeled as 'suitable for damp locations.' Would that be okay to use? I'm considering just removing the whole setup if I can't figure this out. Thanks in advance for any help!

If you're thinking about a replacement, consider going with a canless light. They're a great option, and there are many damp rated models available. It might save you a lot of hassle!

You can actually find a trim ring specifically for can lights in showers with a frosted glass cover below the bulb. Lots of people have just swapped out the existing trim for LED replacements that match the socket. I remember seeing options like this at big box stores too!

Using a wet-rated bulb is crucial for safety in a shower. If your fixture isn’t designed for wet or damp use, it could be illegal and dangerous. I recommend switching out to an integral LED retrofit light, which is much safer and complies with regulations.

I actually just replaced the can lights with a couple of 4-inch commercial electric canless wet rated lights, and I'm also swapping out a chandelier in my bathroom. Thanks for the advice!
