Hey everyone! I'm retired and have been diving into woodworking as a serious hobby. I've started with birdhouses, moved on to commemorative boxes, and now I'm making Adirondack chairs and backyard furniture. I'm considering upgrading my dust collection setup. Right now, I'm using a pretty hefty shop vac that I drag around my garage, switching hoses as needed. I'm eyeing a sale on a Harbor Freight 35-gallon dust collector that has great reviews and is $100 off. For those with a small garage shop — did you find a dedicated dust collection system worth the investment, or did it feel like overkill?

In my experience, a dust collector like the one you’re considering is essential if you frequently use machines like a planer or jointer. A proper system can greatly improve air quality and efficiency. I currently use a setup with a cyclone separator and it makes dealing with dust much easier. Plus, it helps keep my tools running smoothly.
Definitely go for it! A dedicated dust collection system makes life a lot easier and is better for your health. You can even build your own setup cheaply if you’re handy. That Harbor Freight model is a solid deal, especially with the discount! I’d say it’s worth it, even compared to DIY solutions.
While I initially hesitated about the expenses, I've come to love having a dedicated dust collector. It's a game-changer compared to a shop vac! You’ll notice way better dust and chip collection, and it significantly improves the cleanliness of your workspace.
Totally agree! It's amazing how much cleaner everything feels.
