Hey everyone! I'm considering getting a greenhouse, but my backyard faces north. I've heard I might need planning permission to set one up in my front garden, which faces south. Is it even worth it to have a greenhouse under these conditions? I really want to create a warm space for growing veggies and maybe overwinter some exotic plants. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

You might not need planning permission for a greenhouse since they’re often seen as temporary structures. Who told you otherwise? Even with a north-facing garden, you might still get enough sunlight for your plants. For example, my garden's north side gets plenty of sun because my house only shades the immediate area. You could potentially place a greenhouse at the far end of your backyard to maximize light!
Right, even if it doesn't get sun in winter, you might still have enough good growing days in spring and summer.
Make sure you check local regulations! In many places, what's okay varies a lot; for instance, from England to Scotland, every region can be different. In general, the front of the house is usually more restricted. You could find info specific to your area to avoid surprises later on!
Definitely look into your own area’s rules—the laws can be quite intricate, especially if you live in a conservation zone!

That's a good point! I’ve checked, and it does seem like permission usually isn't necessary. As long as the back part of the garden gets some sun, it could still work out nicely!
