I’m pricing a roughly 50-foot fence with a small gate that would meet the neighbors’ fences. One quote is $2,000 for labor plus materials, putting the total around $3,000. Does that sound reasonable, or should I keep looking?
Is about $3k reasonable for 50 feet of fence?

It could be reasonable for a small job, even if the fence itself looks simple. A crew still has travel, delivery, setup, and post installation to account for. I’d compare a couple more quotes with the same scope before deciding, rather than judging only by the per-foot price.

Ask for the quote to spell out materials, labor, gate, removal or disposal if any, and how the posts will be installed. Also confirm the fence style and height. If another installer prices the same details much lower, you’ll have a useful comparison.

Prefab panels can make this a DIY option, but post holes are the part that can turn a straightforward job into a slog. Roots, rocks, access, and the ground itself matter. If you’re considering doing it yourself, price the materials and any tool rental first.

Connecting to an existing fence might save a little material, but it doesn’t necessarily cut the labor in half. The layout, end posts, gate, and how the two fences meet can still take work. I wouldn’t assume the quote is wrong just because it meets the neighbors’ fence.
