Hey everyone! I just spotted an anthill on my roof, and I'm a bit worried. I live in Europe, and my house is made of cement and bricks, but there's a lot of wood in the roof. I noticed a line of ants near my door that goes up to the roof. It seems like they might have a queen up there. Plus, once I saw them fighting with another colony right outside my door, and there were hundreds of dead ants afterwards. Should I be concerned about potential damage to the wood? I know they're just ants, not termites, but still... what do you think?

So, carpenter ants might be the issue. They tend to nest in wet wood—I don't think they actually eat it, but they do burrow and can create nests. If you’ve got them, it could indicate a leak somewhere. I suggest you check it out just to be safe!

I’m not sure what type of ants they are. They seem small with red heads, but I’ll definitely look into it. I’ve dealt with bigger carpenter ants before, and they actually chewed through the wood in my underground floor!
