Is Benjamin Moore Paint Worth the Price Compared to Sherwin Williams?

I'm curious if Benjamin Moore paint is really worth the extra cost, especially since I don't have any local Benjamin Moore stores. Around here, we mostly have Ace Hardware and a few independent shops, but I've only seen BM paint go on sale once in the last year. The pricing at Ace often comes down to having a business account, which I don't have as a homeowner. I'm really drawn to their vibrant colors, but the cost difference is tough to justify. I can usually grab Sherwin Williams paint at around $40 during their 40% off sales, while BM's Regal Select is about $80 per gallon. I've heard mixed reviews on whether SW can accurately match BM colors, particularly the deeper shades I want to use. Has anyone tried this color matching? Or would I be better off just spending the extra on Benjamin Moore?

Honestly, SW paint is great! I use BM myself at home. You might want to check if your local Ace has any rewards programs since they sometimes send out coupons that can help reduce costs a bit. Remember that the cost of paint is minor compared to the time and effort you’ll spend on prep and cleaning – you'd be surprised how fast that adds up even at minimum wage!

I’ve painted two homes using the same color but different brands: one in BM and the other in SW. The SW paint really held up well, especially in high-traffic areas. The BM started showing scuffs and marks in just a few months, while the SW needed only minor touch-ups after four years. Not impressed with BM on that front!

Both BM and SW have their merits, but I'd recommend sticking with the original colors each brand offers instead of trying to match. If you do go with BM, it could be worthwhile to chat with a sales rep at the store; some of their paints can be pretty tricky to apply and need specific techniques and tools for the best results.

Absolutely! I painted nearly every room in my house with BM 20 years ago and it's still in great shape. I adore the pearl finish—it's worth every penny!
