Hey everyone! I'm looking to fill a space in my house with a long sideboard for extra storage. The ones I'm seeing cost around 3-4k, which is way out of my budget. I'm a woodworking newbie and have mostly done small projects, like making stretcher bars and frames for my paintings. I've got a circular saw, miter saw, jig saw, router, and scroll saw. I used to have a table saw, but it broke and I haven't wanted to deal with getting a new one, though I can borrow from friends. I'm wondering if taking on this sideboard project would be too difficult for someone at my skill level. I think the hardest part would be making accurate cuts and aligning the doors. I'm planning to use cabinet-grade plywood and might try some staining. Any honest suggestions would be appreciated!

This is definitely doable, especially with plywood! Just pay attention to your tools. I recommend a track for your circular saw or borrowing a table saw. Consider the back panel for added strength—you can even hide raw edges with veneer tape. You got this!
Honestly, I think you can do it! Some beginners have hands steadier than pros, while others struggle. A positive mindset goes a long way; if you believe you can tackle this, you probably can. Just focus on making accurate cuts—jigs can help if you're not confident in freehanding.
Absolutely, it's a great project for a beginner! If you can break it down into smaller pieces, it should feel less intimidating. Remember, cutting smaller pieces is just as easy as cutting larger ones if you have good plywood. Just take your time and you’ll be okay!
