I'm trying to figure out if using cardboard is a decent short-term option for covering my basement ceiling. What do you think?

Hiding spider spaces, huh? I get that! But just a heads up, cardboard is not the best for that kind of setting. Aside from it drooping, it can get pretty stained from moisture and might attract pests too. If you're looking for something cheap, a large plastic sheet could serve you better until you find a more permanent solution.

It really depends on what you're trying to achieve. If it's just to hide some unsightly spots, cardboard might do the trick for a little while. However, keep in mind that it can droop and absorb moisture, which leads to discoloration and could invite bugs. So, it's not the best long-term solution. Maybe consider using a large sheet of black plastic instead, which might hold up better.
