Is Cleaning My M18 Miter Saw with Isopropyl Alcohol a Bad Idea?

I recently cleaned the turntable and fence area of my M18 miter saw using 70% isopropyl alcohol. I'm not sure if that's safe for aluminum. Could it potentially damage anything?

It might discolor some plastics, but the metal parts should be good. Just make sure to unplug the saw until the alcohol evaporates.

I think it's generally safe as long as there's not a clear coat that might react with the alcohol. Did you notice any adverse effects that made you question it?

No, I didn’t see anything right away. I just started worrying about whether there might be a clear coat or not since it’s hard to tell.

Clear coats are pretty resilient, so you should be fine. I wouldn't stress too much about it!

From my own experience, just avoid using isopropyl on clear plastics; I once ruined a parts organizer with it! But it’s totally okay for metal parts.
