Is Composting on a Balcony Worth It?

Hey everyone! I'm new here and just moved into a flat with a pretty spacious balcony (about 20x2m). I'm getting some great deals on perennials as the season wraps up, and I'm also thinking about starting a compost bin that's around 85L for my food scraps and leftover plant trimmings. But, I'm unsure if it's going to be worth the effort since it might take a long time to yield usable compost. Has anyone here tried composting in a small space like this? What do you think?

I've been exploring different composting setups, and while I have a garden, I didn’t want to go the traditional route. I researched options like wormeries versus bokashi systems, but settled on a hotbin composter because it’s compact and fast—compost in about 6-8 weeks! It fits well in tight spaces like a balcony and minimizes the chance of pests. Plus, it produces compost tea for your plants!

Those hotbins are pricey, but they really deliver! I’ve had mine for two years, and I can get finished compost in just 30-60 days, even in the winter. Just make sure you can gather enough brown materials, like dry leaves, because that's key. It might be a bit challenging to carry them through your flat, though!

Do you use dry leaves instead of shredded paper? I have tons of leaves but we're a paper-free home, so I'm curious about alternatives!
