Is Crawl Space Encapsulation Worth It for Humidity Issues?

Hey everyone! I bought my first home about 10 months ago and I'm trying to figure out if crawl space encapsulation is a smart investment. We live in Atlanta where the humidity levels are usually between 53% and 56%, plus I've spotted a few roaches inside and noticed our AC filters turn grey pretty quickly. Our old wood floors have some bowing, but thankfully the foundation is in good shape according to an inspection. I received a quote for $8,000 to encapsulate my 900 sq ft crawl space, but I'm unsure if I really need it. How concerned should I be about mold growth, especially since the space feels humid but not wet? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

I’m in a similar situation, and I’d recommend getting more quotes. My crawl space is bigger, and I got estimates between $4,000 and $5,000. Definitely shop around!

Good insight. Thanks!

If you’re changing your filters every 2-3 months, that’s pretty normal for a 1"-2" thick filter. Just make sure you’re keeping an eye on that!

Just a heads up about the Nest humidity sensors—they're often not the most reliable. Humidity can vary a lot between different rooms, so don't solely rely on them for your home’s humidity levels.

Check out ASIRI DESIGNS! They have a great website and YouTube channel with tons of info on how to manage your building envelope regarding humidity and encapsulation. Super useful for homeowners!
