Is Flat Paint a Bad Choice for My Daughter’s Room?

Asked By PinkySky123 On

I recently sent my boyfriend to pick up paint for my 11-year-old daughter's room, and he came back with a flat finish BEHR premium paint and primer combo. I've heard that flat paint isn't great for walls, especially in a kid's room, but she's getting older and is less likely to make messes. I'm not super familiar with paint and don't usually choose combo products. Do you think this paint will work, or should I try to exchange it for something else?

Flat paint might not be as bad as you think! A lot of people prefer it for the look, though it can show imperfections on the wall more than other finishes. If you're aiming for a smoother look, you might want to go with eggshell or satin, especially if it’s a kid’s room which might see some scuffs. But hey, at the end of the day, it's just paint, and it’ll work if you don’t mind the flat finish!

Yeah, if your daughter is embracing a minimalistic style, she might be careful with how she treats her walls!

Honestly, I’ve used BEHR a lot, and while it's not the most premium option out there, it’s certainly decent. The flat finish might be tougher to clean, but if your daughter isn’t too messy anymore, it could be okay. Plus, it sounds like you can always repaint later if it doesn't work out!

That’s reassuring! I’ve heard mixed things about flat paint, but at least I know it’s not the end of the world.

You might want to consider returning it if you're not sold on flat paint, especially since many stores will let you exchange it if it’s unopened. Flat definitely hides imperfections well but can be hard to maintain. Satin or eggshell may be a better option if you worry about cleaning later on. Just my two cents!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll see if they allow an exchange. I just want it to look great for her.
