I had a contractor who folded a piece of 5/8" drywall to fit it into a closet. Is this something that commonly happens, and will it affect the structural integrity or soundproofing of the wall? They cut through a bit but not fully and just folded it to make it fit. Here's a picture for reference: https://imgur.com/a/IUiJmlY. Thanks for your input!

What do you mean by fitting in the closet? Did they need to fold it to get it through a door? If that's the case, it shouldn’t really affect anything structurally or acoustically. Just keep an eye on it, but it sounds okay to me!
Generally, folding drywall like that isn't a big issue. It shouldn't impact anything significant. Just remember that drywall isn’t structural, so it’s not like your wall will collapse because of it.
If they folded it just to fit, it's probably fine. Just make sure the cut wasn't too deep. Drywall isn’t the main structure of your house, and soundproofing relies more on the air gaps and any insulation you have in there.

Thank you! I was worried since an AI said it could be a disaster, but this makes me feel a lot better.
