I heard that my city offers free mulch if you load it yourself, but I've been warned that it could be packed with weed seeds. Should I just shell out cash for bagged mulch instead? What do you all think?

Consider getting a chip drop from a local tree service! It's mostly wood and leaves, so you won’t have to stress too much about weed seeds. Just a heads up, they usually have a large minimum drop, and it might not look as neat as store-bought mulch. But if you're looking to save a dime, it's a solid option!
Thanks, I'll give that a try! I hear it can really fill a space cheap.
Yeah, the free mulch typically isn't treated to get rid of weed seeds, so that's a valid concern. Bagged mulch can be pricey, but if you're looking for something bulk and affordable, check out some landscape supply stores for bulk options. They tend to be cleaner for your soil and environment.
It really depends on what you need it for. For my projects, I don't mind a few weed seeds—it's part of the game! Just keep in mind it might not be ideal for more delicate plants.

Be warned though, they might use the truck as a potty on job sites! You could get some funky smells along with your mulch. Just keep that in mind!
