Is Hiring a Lawyer Worth It for a $20,000 Home Contract?

I'm about to spend $20,000 on a backyard remodel and hiring a contractor. While the contractor has great reviews, I'm worried about getting snagged by a bad contract since I'm not a legal expert. Should I hire a lawyer to review this contract for peace of mind?

Yeah, I’ve had my fair share of bad experiences with contractors. Even when my contract was solid, taking legal action was a hassle, especially since the contractor was an LLC. Now, I tie my payment to project milestones and keep payments under $7,500 so I can handle issues in small claims if needed. It's nice knowing the system can save you a bit in case things go south. Just remember, if you need to go to court, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg!

I thought small claims were generally capped at $5k. Didn’t know it varied by state!
