I'm wondering if adding insulation to my attic is a good investment. My rental house is pretty old, built in 1951, and I can't find any insulation in the exterior walls — at least, there wasn't any when I renovated the bathroom. The attic is neat and has plywood flooring for easy access. Would it be worthwhile to install blown-in insulation over the plywood, or does the majority of heat loss occur through the walls?

Adding insulation to the attic and sealing up any gaps around doors and windows will have a massive impact. Wall insulation is important, but it’s much less of a priority than getting that attic sorted.
I did this myself! I removed the plywood, sealed everything up tight, and then blew in insulation. It significantly cut my electric bill and made the house feel cozier. Don’t forget that air sealing is just as crucial as adding insulation!
Definitely worth it! Just adding some insulation will help a ton, especially if you blow it in instead of just laying it down. It makes a huge difference in comfort and can lower your heating bills too.

Can you just add the insulation on top of the plywood?
