Is it a bad idea to mount a medicine cabinet on my closet door?

I'm thinking about putting a medicine cabinet on the inside of my closet door to store medicine and first aid supplies. It's a regular solid door, so I'm not too worried about the cabinet itself being secure. However, I'm concerned about whether the weight could cause issues with the hinges over time. Is this a good or bad idea?

Hanging anything heavier than a bathrobe on a door is risky, to be honest.

You might want to think about the contents moving around and possibly spilling out every time you open the door. There are some back of door organizers that could work better for you instead!

True! I never thought about that.

Just a heads up, many indoor doors are actually hollow rather than solid. Hanging heavy items like cabinets can lead to sagging over time, but fixing that issue isn't too complicated. So if you're prepared for that, you should be good!

I think both solid and hollow doors are just around—they both exist. I get what the original poster means by a solid door.

Have you considered using an over-the-door shoe organizer? It would be lighter than a medicine cabinet, and you could easily label the sections for organization!

That’s a great idea! I’ll definitely check that out.
