Is It a Bad Idea to Put a Floor Latch in Carpet?

I'm looking to make my office doors more secure. The original designer of this place clearly didn't think about adding doors! I've already added some, but the stationary door wobbles too much with just the top latch. I'd like to install a floor latch but I'm concerned about doing it over carpet. Would that be silly? You might want to consider installing a latch at the top of the door frame instead of at the bottom. If you have some kind of pin lever or stop, that could work well. I have toddlers at home, and they’re always trying to push the door open, so I get the need for extra reinforcement!

It's really up to you how you want the doors to swing. From what I see, the threshold looks like there was a door there before. If you're keeping those doors, I’d suggest putting a small piece of plywood under the latch plate, cut to match the thickness of the carpet pad. This way, the latch will have a solid base instead of just sitting on carpet and pad, which isn’t very stable.
