I've had some experience making wooden cutting boards and doing wood carving. So, I'm considering taking on the challenge of making my own violin. I'm thinking about using spruce for the top and maple for the bottom. Does that sound good?

Spruce and maple are an awesome combo for a violin! Great luck with your build!
Totally! The top is generally made from quarter-sawn spruce, while maple is used for the belly and sides. Don’t forget that the fingerboard and pegs are usually made from ebony or another dense wood. Just a heads up: making a proper violin is pretty complex, so definitely do your research and make sure you have the right tools before diving in!
I think I can manage with the tools I have!
Spruce and maple are solid choices! I might not be an expert on violins, but those woods work well together. Go for it!
I will try my best! I’ll probably keep posting updates along the way, haha.

Thanks! I just learned some new terms from this thread haha.
