Is it a good idea to pour self leveler over linoleum?

Hey everyone! I'm currently working on my basement and we've removed the carpet to prep for new flooring. However, I've come across some linoleum that's really glued down well in about a quarter of the main room. I'm wondering if I can just pour self leveler right over it, or if it's necessary to scuff up the surface for a better bond? Also, is there an effective way to chisel it all out? Thanks in advance for your advice!

I definitely wouldn’t skip the removal. We’ve tackled tough linoleum with a manual floor scraper, and if it's really stuck, renting a powered one could save you a lot of time and effort.

You can technically pour self leveler on linoleum, but it’s not recommended. If you do decide to go that route, it could lead to issues down the line. It's best to remove the linoleum instead, even though it might feel like a hassle.

Yeah, definitely better to do it right the first time to avoid any future problems!
