Is it a Smart Move to Buy Hacked or Unhacked Milwaukee Tool Kits?

I'm considering two different Milwaukee M12 FUEL drill and impact driver combo kits. The first is priced at $199 for a set that includes 4 batteries, while the second option is $220 and comes with 2 batteries and an additional free battery pack. I can potentially hack the second deal to get a refund for the extra batteries, bringing the price down to $147 for the 2-battery kit. I'm wondering if it's worth it to spend an extra $42 for two additional batteries. I'm also curious if these tools will be suitable for general home projects like building a bookcase and assembling furniture since I'm a 'buy-once-cry-once' kind of person. Additionally, is there a 12V string trimmer available?

I’d definitely go for the extra batteries! If you don’t end up using them, you can always sell them later. That $42 could turn into a good deal for you in the long run!

Seemed like a steal to me, thanks for confirming!

Generally, a good rule of thumb is about $10 per amp hour, so $42 for two 3.0 Ah batteries is pretty reasonable! However, if you’re just using them occasionally, you might not actually need those extra batteries. So, it's a mixed bag—maybe yes or maybe no.

Thanks for the context, I appreciate it. It's a bummer there's no 12V string trimmer. I'm really going to need one in spring. It seems like the outdoor stuff from Ryobi uses a 40V battery while the power tools lean towards smaller batteries. Looks like only the 18V models from Makita and Milwaukee can share batteries effectively.
