I was at Home Depot and asked one of the associates if they had samples for the vinyl floor planks I was interested in. Instead of showing me a small sample, she suggested that I open a box and take an entire plank! She looked pretty young and I wasn't sure if she was just guessing. I've seen some brands that offer smaller 6x6 samples in display racks, but this brand didn't have any. Is giving out a full 3-foot plank normal practice?

That’s actually not the typical procedure. Most places will have small samples available, and just giving out full planks is kind of risky on the store's part. It may depend on the individual store's policies, but it doesn’t seem right to me.
Haha, maybe you should go back for more free samples until you’ve got a whole floor! Seriously though, it’s a bit unusual to give away entire planks like that, but it could be a store-specific policy. Worth taking advantage of if they’re allowing it!
In my experience, my local Home Depot lets you take one plank for free if they have signs up for samples, but that's about it. If they aren't providing small samples, it’s likely they expect you to buy a box and return it if you don't like it—just check for any restocking fees first!
