Hey everyone! I was installing a ceiling curtain hanger using some #10 1-1/2 screws and got a bit carried away while drilling. I found the joists with my stud finder and started making pilot holes. At times, it felt like I had to apply a bit of pressure to get through, but since this was my first experience drilling into joists, I wasn't sure how much pressure was appropriate.
For reference, my holes are about 2.25 inches from the wall and centered in the joist. After checking my balcony where the joists are visible, I realized they're held by what I think are metal joist hangers that extend about 2.5 inches from the wall. I'm pretty sure I drilled through these hangers on the other side.
So, how big of a problem is this? I'm renting in an apartment building, and am I potentially causing damage?

I wouldn't say it's zero risk. Depending on the quality of the hanger and how much you drilled through, it could be an issue. Make sure those screws aren’t way too much for the hangers; they usually have strict tolerances. If you're uncertain, it might be worth getting a pro to take a look.
Why would you do that?! You might have compromised the structure! Seriously, if you've drilled into a critical support piece, you should alert your landlord or a professional immediately before it leads to bigger problems!
