Is it ever necessary to use more than four rubber feet on a cutting board?

I'm building a large cutting board (18"x24"x1.5") using cherry, maple, and pheart, and I'm concerned it might bow in the center over time. I'm considering adding a fifth rubber foot in the center for extra support but I'm not sure if that's the best approach. All the wood is dry and has been stored in the same environment, but I know cutting boards do face different moisture levels. Any advice on this?

Since your board is 1.5" thick, sagging is unlikely. However, it won’t hurt to add a fifth foot if it boosts your confidence in the final product. Just keep in mind that too many feet can lead to instability if the board warps.

Good point! But I’ve heard that it might cause wobbling if the counter isn’t level.

Adding a fifth foot won’t really help with the bowing. If anything, it could lead to rocking, especially if your counter isn't perfectly flat. Four feet should suffice, just play around with their positioning to maximize stability.

I’m a bit worried about rocking too, I’ll definitely experiment with the placements.

Or even consider three feet for less risk of wobbling!

Honestly, you might not even need rubber feet at all! A kitchen towel underneath works just fine for preventing slips.

True, but the customer specifically asked for rubber feet.
