Is it Ever Okay to Take Clippings from Someone's Garden?
Asked by GreenThumbs99
I recently saw a woman pull up to my house, put on gardening gloves, and start taking cuttings from a plant in my front yard. I'm new to gardening and I thought this was completely inappropriate. I confronted her when I noticed what she was doing, and she looked surprised but quickly left. Shouldn't she have just knocked and asked for permission first?

You know, it’s pretty common courtesy to ask before taking cuttings. Most gardeners would totally be okay with it if approached properly. It just boggles my mind that she thought it was acceptable to just take without asking!

Absolutely not okay! You were right to confront her. When it comes to gardening, asking for permission is essential. Most gardeners are happy to share if you just ask nicely.
NatureFan77: Exactly! Building good relationships with neighbors about plants starts with respect.

I can't believe she had the nerve to come prepared with gloves and shears! That's just bizarre and disrespectful. It sounds like she was planning to take cuttings without permission, which is definitely crossing a line.
FloralFrenzy: Oh, she definitely seemed like she knew what she was doing. It's not just rude; it's outright theft!
