I'm planning to fertilize my lawn and found a local supplier 8 miles away that sells compost and nitro compost for $35 per yard. My lawn is about 1,000 square feet, plus I have some roses in the front and another 250 square feet in the back with more roses. I'm estimating that 1 to 1.5 yards of compost should cover everything. I also plan to aerate the lawn using a 1-inch spade bit, spread the compost, and then overseed. One thing I'm unsure about is whether I need to identify the type of grass I currently have before I start this process. Any advice would be appreciated!

Many places will actually deliver compost for a fee, which could save you a lot of hassle. Just a thought! It might be easier than hauling it yourself, especially if you’re not sure how much your truck can handle.

It's true, but if you're set on renting, just make sure you get liability insurance—it can save you from a lot of headaches if something goes sideways.
