Hey everyone, I'm planning to open up the wall between my living room and kitchen. I'm looking to create a 12' opening and want to use a solid 10" or 12" beam with matching vertical supports, rather than going for faux beams. Just trying to get a sense of whether this is a reasonable approach or if a 10" beam could actually support that span in a single-level ranch. Any thoughts?

You mentioned it's a single level -- do you know what load is currently resting on that wall? Like, is it just ceiling joists or does it support something heavier?
