I'm moving into a new house and I want to convert the garage into a bedroom. The garage already has drywall up, but the seams aren't taped. My plan is to frame in some existing doors and put in a window, but I'm really concerned about the insulation. Should I just remove the drywall to check the insulation quality and possibly replace it with a better type? I hesitate to think they prioritized insulation when the drywall was originally installed decades ago. Is there a way to improve the insulation without taking down all the drywall, like using spray foam? I'd love to hear any tips or experiences you all have with this!

If you don’t have any evidence that the insulation is bad, it might be better to leave it alone. But if you're worried about keeping the new bedroom comfortable, you could consider removing a drywall panel that's easy to replace. That way, you can check the insulation without too much hassle. Just follow up with taping the seams afterward to ensure everything's sealed.

That makes sense! If I do decide to pull a panel, I’ll make sure to tape it up properly after.
