Is It Normal for a Washer/Dryer Closet to Have No Drain?

I recently purchased a newly built home, and my builder, Tripointe, informed me that it's not required by code to have a drain in the washer/dryer closet. This seems odd to me—I'm left wondering where all the water from the washer is supposed to go! Can anyone clarify if this is standard practice?

It sounds like you're not talking about a floor drain, right? Many homes do have a pipe set up for washing machines to drain into, so it's a bit strange that yours doesn't have any drainage system. You might want to double-check what exactly was included in your build.

Yeah, I agree! A washer should ideally connect to some kind of drainage, whether it's a dedicated drain or a utility sink.

Usually, there should be hot and cold water inlets along with a drain near them. Builders sometimes confuse it with a floor drain. But if you’re not seeing any drain setup at all, it could be a concern. Make sure to clarify with your builder about where the water will go after use.

Right, the drain should be close to where the plumbing for the washer is! If they install a washer without some way to handle drainage, that’s definitely questionable.
