Is it Normal for My Main Water Line to Split Right After Coming In?

Hey everyone, I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar with their plumbing. My main water line enters my house from the street and almost immediately splits into two different copper lines, like literally just an inch in. This setup makes it tricky to use any water monitoring devices inside my home. Is this a common thing, or am I facing some unique plumbing issue? My house was built in 1980 and is located in Southern California.

It sounds like your main line could be splitting for irrigation purposes. A lot of homes have a setup like that for landscaping, especially in areas prone to drought like California. Just a thought! You might want to check if there’s anything tied into the irrigation system.

That makes sense! I wasn't sure since the lines go directly into concrete. Any tips on how to trace those lines?

Honestly, it’s not super uncommon for water lines to split shortly after entering a home. They might do that for a couple of reasons—irrigation or serving multiple fixtures. But I totally get the frustration with water monitoring devices. It might be worthwhile to consult a plumber if you're concerned about it or want a better setup!
