I'm having an issue with my SawStop fence where it shifts up to 1/4" when I push down to lock it in place. This only happens when I'm moving it close to the blade; it's not a problem if I'm using the ruler. The shop owner told me this is normal, but it's kind of annoying. Is there a trick to reduce this movement, or is it just something I'll have to live with?

Yeah, it's a common quirk! I've noticed that if you find the right spot on your fence to push down when locking it, the movement is minimized. For me, it’s about 3 inches forward from the front edge of the table. I also do a partial lock first to get a better idea of where it's settling before fully locking it down. It takes some getting used to but becomes easier over time!
That makes sense! I'll give the partial lock a shot too.
A 1/4" shift seems a bit excessive! I’ve only had minor movement with mine. What model do you have?
They’re the 3 and 5hp industrial models, maybe they need a better adjustment.?
Gotcha! Sometimes community shop tools just need a little TLC.
It can definitely move due to slack in the rail. What I've found helpful is to lock it, then unlock and use a gentle bump with my hand to adjust the position, especially tapping about 1/3 of the way from the front before locking it again. Just be careful not to grab and pull the fence directly; it can mess with the alignment!
I feel your pain! When I used my Jobsite version, I found that if I pulled straight back while adjusting, the fence wouldn’t shift as much when locking it. It’s all about the angle when you push it down!
I’ll give that a try, sounds like a solid idea!
Yeah, I do the same. Pulling towards you helps a lot.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try finding that sweet spot next time.
