Is it normal for tomatoes to skip hardening off?

I just started hardening off my plants this year. In the past, I've always moved my tomatoes directly from indoors to outdoors without any issues. Is that typical, or should I be concerned about not hardening them off?

It's interesting that you didn't experience any issues! It might depend on your setup. Some people have reported that if they're using bright grow lights, their plants can adapt to the sunlight pretty quickly without much stress. But factors like wind and temperature changes can still stress them out, so keep an eye on those!

I hear you! My first time growing from seeds, I skipped the hardening off process and ended up with sun-scorched leaves on my beans and cucumbers. But maybe tomatoes are a bit tougher, especially if you're growing them under lights. Just make sure to watch for any signs of stress, you know?

It really varies! If your plants go into a calmer environment like a covered balcony, that could help reduce stress from wind and direct sun. Tomatoes are generally pretty hardy, and if the weather is stable and not too extreme, they might be fine without hardening off. But it's always a good idea to take it slow if you're unsure!

That's a good point! The balcony is definitely shielded from a lot of harsh weather. Thanks for the insight!
