Is it Okay for a Contractor to Screw Through My Window Frame?

I recently had new windows installed, and I noticed that the contractor screwed directly through the exterior drip edge of the window frame to secure it to the rough opening. They then filled the hole with caulk to cover it up. I'm wondering if this is considered acceptable and if it's up to code. Should I be worried about potential water intrusion due to this method?

Definitely ask for more details about the installation process. Screwing through the window frame isn’t usually standard practice. If water intrusion becomes a problem, it could lead to bigger issues down the line. I'd recommend checking up on it regularly, especially after storms.

It would have been better if they removed the drip edge before putting in the new windows. While they did caulk the screw hole, remember that caulking has to be reapplied periodically because its durability depends on the quality of the material used. Keep an eye on it! If you start to notice any leaks or gaps, it might be a concern.

I totally agree! The caulking could wear out over time, so just keep checking for any cracks or water spots to ensure everything stays sealed.
