I'm looking for some advice about adding a new LiFePO4 battery to my existing one. I bought a ZOOMS 200Ah Plus battery in 2023, and it's been working since May 2024. I've just purchased another REDODO 200Ah Plus battery — it's identical in brand and packaging. I've heard conflicting opinions about connecting a new battery to an older one that has been used for a while. I haven't installed the new battery yet, so I'm wondering if I should send it back instead. My plan is to fully charge both batteries separately, connect them in parallel, use separate fuses rated for 250A, and then connect to a bus bar with a 500A fuse for the inverter. What do you think? This topic has mixed opinions, but I'm in the camp that says if your batteries are similar in age, you shouldn't have issues. Having them in parallel can actually help balance the voltage between them. Just make sure they're close enough in condition, and it should be fine. A year is nothing for these batteries! Just keep an eye on their wear over time.
Honestly, if your 'old' battery is only 6 months old and has only seen 23 charge cycles, you should be good to connect the new one. Go for it and enjoy!
