Is It Okay to Add Urine to My Compost Bin?

0
Asked By CompostMaster99 On

A friend of mine helped me start my compost bin with a mix of food scraps, grass clippings, and cardboard. After we were done, they casually mentioned that I should add my urine to the compost weekly, claiming it's a practice that gardeners have relied on for ages. I couldn't tell if they were serious or just messing with me. Is there any truth to this, or should I just ignore that advice?

Yep, definitely a good idea! My grandfather always insisted on using urine in the compost, and while I tried it (using a bottle since my garden is overlooked), I didn't notice a huge change. But I can see how it would help!

Yeah, a lot of people find it helps speed things up a bit. Just be mindful of how often you do it!

It's totally legit! Adding urine can actually give your compost a nitrogen boost, which is great for the breakdown process. Your friend is onto something—just make sure you're doing it discreetly. I've heard many gardeners swear by it!

Male urine can be a fantastic addition to your compost. Just remember to mix it in well and ventilate your bin properly, and you'll be fine!
