I'm considering installing a 72" shower door on my 66" shower, but the door frame will sit above the shower itself. I'm wondering if it's safe and secure to go ahead with this installation or if I should just opt for a shorter door. I have some pictures for reference, but would love to hear your thoughts!

I ran into a similar issue! I considered a few solutions like adding a metal piece, adjusting the tile surround, or even tearing everything out! In the end, my partner suggested just returning the door and getting a shower rod instead.
Yeah, you can probably install it safely, but it might look a bit off. Just a heads up, it could come across as more of a makeshift solution—definitely not the most polished look.
You might want to look into trim pieces that can bridge the gap between the wall and the door frame. I did something similar and it looked fine! Leaving a gap could be problematic.
